ParkNow’s UK division RingGo with ParkBee win Inaugural Parkex Innovation Award
14 June '18
At Parkex today (14 June) the RingGo / ParkBee partnership was recognised by the gathered parking industry, as their joint barrier solution won the first ever Parkex Innovation Trail Award.
ParkBee has created a smart technology which quickly and easily integrates into existing barrier and gated car parks, enabling these facilities to open with the touch of a button in the RingGo cashless parking app. The two organisations are now working together to enable Councils, private parking operators and car park owners to open up previously underutilised spaces to members of the public. The ParkBee kit typically takes just 30 minutes to install.
The award, which was based around the Parkex Innovation Trail, saw 18 recently launched offerings vie for the accolade. Innovation Trail plaques highlighted entrants, encouraging visitors to view and discuss each creation. Three minute “power pitches”, interspersed throughout the Parkex seminar programme, provided additional detail on each of the featured inventions.
Ultimately, the decision on the winner rested with visitors to the show, as they selected their favourite innovation via a token voting process.
Peter O’Driscoll, UK Country Manager for RingGo, comments: “This win means so much to us as it’s a clear validation of our historic focus on developing new products that make parking a more positive experience, both for operators and members of the public.
“Our joint solution with ParkBee means that hundreds of thousands of underused spaces can now be opened up to drivers, reducing congestion, making parking easier and generating additional revenue for Councils and private parking operators.”
Tom Buchmann, Managing Director for ParkBee, agrees: “It’s great that our smart technology has been recognised in this way. In the Netherlands we’ve successfully unlocked swathes of new car parks and spaces and we’re very confident we can do the same in the UK.
“These two days at Parkex have already opened up lots of new opportunities for us, and we’re looking forward to this award helping to create many more with RingGo.”
RingGo phone parking is the UK’s leading cashless parking provider with 138 local authorities offering this solution. The service has been used to open up ParkBee integrated car parks since March 2018 and 25 car parks across the South East currently offer this facility.
ParkBee was founded in 2013 in the Netherlands, after its co-founders, Jian Jiang and Tom Buchmann realised there was significant opportunity in opening up private car parks to members of the public. As part of the ESA Incubation Centre and Tech Incubator Yes!Delft, the duo developed smart technology which made it possible to open car park barriers through a cloud based platform.
In 2015, ParkBee partnered with RingGo’s sister company, Parkmobile, and together they made parking easier at locations across the Netherlands. After opening an office in London in October 2016, the company carried out similar partnering with the UK wing of Parkmobile, ultimately offering their service via RingGo in March 2018.
Twenty five car parks in the south east of the UK currently provide the joint RingGo/ParkBee solution.
